Getting an error when trying to install Windows 7

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a Mac OS X host. When I gt to the point of pressing Start to begin the installation I get this error: "FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted." I'm using a Windows 7 full disc not the upgrade media and using VirtualBox 3.0.10. Can anybody help, this is the first time trying to install a VM.

Perryg, I did as you told me and turned on passthrough for the CD/DVD but got the same error. Can I install Windows XP and then upgrade that VM to Windows 7?

Did you also put a check mark in mount the CD/DVD while you were there?

Of course, I guess there's something wrong with the disc because I installed Windows 7 RC and it installed fine. Later I will try to upgrade that Windows 7 RC VM to the final version and see what happens...

I've upgraded my Windows 7 RC VM to Windows 7 Ultimate and its running fine but I've encountered a problem. Tried to install Office 2007 and it doesn't let me. I get a window saying:
Setup Error
Setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupted or not available. Run setup again from the original source disc or download location
I know the disc is fine, but does anybody have a solution for that?

Copy install files to hard drive and install from there?

You could make an ISO image of the disk and install from that.

I did the image file (.iso) of the Office 2007 disc and it worked. It installed very slowly but it worked, thanks for the tip rpmurray.

I read in a related forum that the standard Macbook Pro disc drive may (not) be supported by Windows 7?! I've got a MBP 15" and my optical drive is Mashita DVD-R UJ-868. Having installed VB 3.1.6, I had issues installing Win 7 from ISO image on DVD. I repeatedly got the Fatal: no bootable medium found... message.
My workaround to resolve issue was to:
+Copy ISO file to Host hard drive
+Launch VB
+Go to File > Virtual Media Manager > CD/DVD images
+Add Win 7 ISO from Host drive
+Add New Guest for Windows, Windows 7
+Configure Guest
+Start Guest
+Upon first start, you will be given option to boot from disk, select your ISO image
Hope this helps somebody.
