usb hangs on ubuntu 9.10 guest

I right click on the usb icon and then select the usb stick that is plugged in and the guest hangs, I have to shutdown the main panel and
reboot before i can get back in. I am not able to paste the log while in the vm, copy and paste from the vm to the host does not work.

I am using vbox 3.0.12 and the usb does not hang however it still does not work. I have guest additions installed for 3.0.12 and when i rclick on the usb icon it shows the usb stick however if i check it for use it comes back and says that its busy.. (see vbox error attached)
