The CD thing has been my problem too. I have an external USB CD drive. Since it's listed on the VM, when I turn the drive off or unplug it, I get this error message. Turn it back on and all is well. It took me quite a while to figure this out, and it happens so infrequently that every time it does I have to scratch my head and try to figure it out all over again.

This kind of behaviour just seems wrong to me. The error code is a bit cryptic. I'm assuming it can't find the drive image. Also, the CD is not necessary in the least for the operation of the VM. The plugging/unplugging of a CD drive from a real machine does not prevent it from booting!

My 2c.

I had the similar problem few days ago and couldn't figure out the solution. Fortunately I don't have to start from scratch. The instructions in this forum does help and it did work for me.

I have the same problem with a thumb drive.

I built the vbox machine with out a usb drive attached and everything would work fine. I then needed to access my thumb drive so I got it attached in vbox and everything was fine. UNTIL...

I restarted the box with out the thumb drive. It would not start unless I had that drive in. Whether it was mounted or not, it just had to see the drive.

It basically now has to be mounted in linux for the vbox to start once it's started I can remove the thumb drive with out ill effect on vbox... But if I pause, save state, or restart the box that thumb drive needs to be present inorder to continue using vbox.

How do I get the vbox to "forget" the usb drive?

Did you by chance set the thumbdrive as shared folder? If so, remove the shared folder definition.

I had the problem today. Thank you salvox for your easy fix.
Nevertheless, I feel that the error message should be a little
more explanatory...

Hey guys,

Tx for the unmount option! Started working with VirtualBox this week and my first impression was that a disaster happened after a kernel update in opensuse.

Such a simple solution makes me think that this works much more easy as VMware where I struggeled with a lot of problems after kernel updates!

Keep up the good work!
