Hi,
I am hosting VB on winxp32 running a guest with Ubuntu 9.10.

What Network adapter setup should I use so my guest can be sshed to and can still have net access?

Thank you

Either:
  • NAT and also set up port forwarding rules for SSH (sections 6.4 and 6.4.1 - even has a SSH port forwarding example!).
Your host is simultaneously itself and a router and the host and router share the same IP, so port numbers for services have to be shared.
    OR
  • Bridged (section 6.5 of the manual).
The guest gets it's own IP on your internal network (using your network's DHCP, or set static somehow...), so port numbers are not shared.

Thanks for the reply Mark,

Bridged will get an IP properly, but cannot access the net at all. Even pinging directly to any ip wont work (host machine, router, google)

Anything tricky I need to do to get bridged to see the outside net? Note I can ssh into my guest (it seems slow tho), and I have installed the guest additions.

Thank you.

You need a router or similar to use Bridged properly. Another method you can do is have one NIC attached to NAT for internet, another attached to Host-Only so you have Host <> Guest connectivity. Other machines on the network won't be able to SSH to the VM though. Only Bridged and NAT port forwarding can give you that.

I have a router, and my guest is getting assigned an IP properly via dhcp. Still no net connectivity. It seems others are having this issue with 3.0.10. Does anyone have a link for 3.0.8?
