This is the second time I have run into a critical error when trying to build a virtual machine. The first time was when I was trying to build a Windows client on an Ubuntu Host. This time round the rolls are reversed. As my windows knowledge is superior to my linux knowledge i figured it would be easier to troubleshoot this time round.
I am running an Asus 1000HA Netbook with XP Home as the host. I am trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook remix as a virtual machine.
The machine crashes at point of install. It boots ok, I get the Ubuntu splash screen where I select my language then I get the screen where I choose if I want to run the live cd or install, I choose install and its a second or two after that I get the critical error window pop up.

Re: Second case of Critical Error when building virtual machine
FYI Update
Disable the vt-x setting via the xml file - No change
Attempted to boot from ISO files foe three different OS's - No change.
It appears the problem could be hardware compatibility with VirtualBox, does this sound right?

Did you find answer to your problem? I am running into the same problem. I am wondering if it is the home version? Have you installed any other guest?

Re: Second case of Critical Error when building virtual machine
It would help if you posted the hosts RAM and the settings (exact and all) that you are using.
Oh and it is really unusual for Windows hosts to run the OSE version of VirtualBox. Are you sure that it is the OSE version?

Re: Second case of Critical Error when building virtual machine
I'm going to piggy back on this one. I am using a VIA c7-m processsor 1.2kh with 2GB of memory. It looks like a general failure of VM since I've tried to install Ubuntu, Linux red hat, XP professional and Windows 7 and all of them fail the same way. It starts booting the basic installing functions and then a sudden crash. I could not send the log file for is too long. The image is where it gets stalled.

Re: Second case of Critical Error when building virtual machine
Is there no way that you can send the log file as an attachment?
Even if you need to compress it?
We really need to see it and the settings that you are using for the guest. Other than that it would be us throwing guesses.

Thank you for the suggestion. There are two log files, which are attached.

Re: Second case of Critical Error when building virtual machine
You have a bad version of VBox. Download the release 54097 and your problems should go away
