I downloaded windows 7 ( and XP) from MSDN, and neither have worked. For windows 7, I tried changing the settings as the previous poster suggested, but still did not work for me. I am using ubuntu 10.04.

I a having the same exact issue when trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate on an Ubuntu 11.10 host using VirtualBox 4.1.4. Has anybody found a fix for this?

Did you read this thread? It clearly says to try and download the ISO again. If you don't want to do that, since it is a pretty big file, then check the checksum of the file and compare it with your download source, they should have the checksums noted somewhere.

Solution: Use Windows Professional 7 (x64) ISO and it will work without a problem. I was having the same issue, and I tried every combination of configuration including changing the IDE and SATA types. Ultimately the problem was I was using Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) ISO. I believe there are requirements of the versions beyond Professional that simply won't work on a VM.

Anyway, this worked for me. Maybe it will work for all of you as well.

Best wishes, Ninja

Ultimate works just fine. More than likely you had a corrupt ISO.

In the past, I've received the missing cd/dvd driver error message when the ISO or DVD were bad. But I don't think that's the case with Virtualbox.

We're using Virtualbox 3.1.2 as this is what's required to build images for the Zenith SSO environment. I downloaded Windows 7 64 and 32 bit and Windows 2008 R2 ISO's from the Microsoft Volume licensing site. I got the no cd/dvd driver found message on all of the ISO's. I know the ISO images were good as I used them to build systems on a Hyper-V server without issue. I then burned the ISO's to a DVD and used the Pass Through option for the physical DVD drive. Once I did this, I was able to build the systems on Virtualbox without issue. I'm assuming that Microsoft doesn't include the driver for the virtual DVD drive that is part of Virtualbox.

There are no drivers for a CD in an ISO.
