Immutable VDIs and Snapshots

Post by Sorceror »

I am told that future versions of VirtualBox won't allow combining immutable VDIs and snapshots. Although I understand there are good reasons for this, it is something I currently use.

Apparently, the work-around for this has not yet been decided on. Maybe it could be posted here when it is?

Snapshots with immutable images not expected to work correctly

Bit of a bummer.
VM states can now be restored from arbitrary snapshots instead of only the last one, and new snapshots can be taken from other snapshots as well (aka branched snapshots)

However this allows a work-around as long as you're careful and never make changes you don't want to an un-snapshotted image/VM.
