Windows XP read only problem

Hi,

I/ve searched through this forum and others in order to solve my problem, but I did not find any usable solution.

Therefore here my problem again:

After updating to ubuntu 9.10 I had to update the Kernel of VirtualBox. I used that opportunity to update to VirtualBox 3.0.10.

But since then I have the problem, that all folder, files (etc) have the "read only" box checked (grey underlaying) under properties.
This is really problematic for me, since I have eclipse running under Windows XP and I need to change a buildpath, but it won't let me, saying it can't create the new file.

Does anybody have a solution for that problem?

Ahja, funnywise I can still change code in Eclipse and save it.

Thanks a lot!

LG scaary

And you never considered removing that checkbox and apply the new settings? A grey underlay means some items are read-only and some are not. It's not disabled.
Besides, this is a Windows question, not really VB. The upgrade has nothing to do with this and the error in Eclipse is just that. Tried googling for it?

*gg*
Of Corse I've tried changing these settings, applying, okaying, etc. NOTHING helped.

And it's not a windows only Problem, since it had worked before I updated it.

I've spent 3 hours yesterday to find a solution in google.
So far I've found nothing that would fix the problem.

And it's not just an error in eclipse.
E.g. if I create a new folder, it has the same settings AND I can't delete it :(

It says it;s in use by another program. And it''s NOT!

:(

Are you sure it's not in use? Check that with process explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... 96653.aspx).

I assume you have done a complete power cycle of the host since the upgrade.
I know they say it is not needed, but at times it appears to clear these kinds of problems.

Hi.
Sorry for my late response, I've been a little busy lately.

Of course I've done that.

Furthermore I've found out that it's not a general readonly problem (i.e. I can now create folders, delete them, etc), but programs I run in the virtualbox (for example my scanner program) cannot save anything anywhere on the HD.

Even if I create a new folder, no program is able to write in it.

Anybody an idea?

Btw:
I installed windows 7 in the VB and have EXACTLY the same problem.

Here some problems more detailled:

The scannersoftware tells me, the file already exists, if I want to save a picture. It DEFINETLY does not exist. And if I click overwrite, it acts as if it had done this, but nothing has happened.

Other programs simply throw me some exceptions and say they can't create files / folders.

I have noticed a lot of problem with 9.10 with and without VBox.
I have seen some discussed in the Ubuntu forums and some here as well. Seems there is more work to be done and as such I have simply gone back to 9.04.
9.04 and VBox 3.0.10 do not have these problems so I figure that it is more a problem with 9.10 (but that is just me)

HI.
Thanks for your answer,
but as far as I recall I've already had the same problem with 9.04, when I updatet VB to 3.10.

Strangely enough I've tried to go back to 3.06 and it didn't change it.

Are there any tricks I need to know to make VB work properly?

If you truly believe that this is a problem with VirtualBox you will need to post a ticket in bugtracker to see what the problem really is.
I have not seen this issue for a long time and it was not wide spread then. Do a search of bugtracker and see if you can find a ticket that matches your case and add yourself to it or create a new one if you can't find one. You will need to create a new account there though because it is on a different system. Link is below my post.
Don't forget to attach your log file though. They are very strict about this.

Hi.
Thanks for your answer.

I've found a ticket dealing with a similar problem.

Do I get a response from them or how does that work?

Thanks for your answer, btw.

They will respond if they have more questions.
Other than that they will respond when they have a fix or they know for sure that it is not a problem with the code.
