User manual PDF file - naming convention

Hi,

I suggest to change name of UserManual.PDF to something more descriptive,
like VirtualBox 3.x.x UserManual.PDF, or at least VirtualBox UserManual.PDF.

If you downloaded it to your general download or document storage,
you will not remember UserManual.PDF belongs to VirtualBox.

That's why they invented the option "Save As..." and "Rename File". I dumb the manual in the VB installation file folder (where the actual installer files are). Don't make a mess of your own system and ask others to clean it up or make it more organised.

Sorry Sasquatch, but I have to agree with the OP. It isn't critical, but the pdf should have a more descriptive name: an example of when the current name irritates me is when it appears in XP's "Recent Documents", the current name gives no clue as to what this actually is!

Having the user renaming or copying the PDF is not the most elegant of options, since you most likely then end up with multiple user manuals - and confusion - after the next VBox version comes out. What I usually do instead is create a shortcut link to the PDF on my desktop, and I give the link a better name, e.g. including the words VirtualBox and a version number!

What I do is create a shortcut for the VirtualBox.chm to my desktop and when ever the update changes the shortcut brings up what ever is in the folder. I have not had to recreate this shortcut except once when they missed getting the chm file in the download.
Just my little way of making my life easier. Plus the PDF is way harder to navigate then the chm is.

EDIT: the search feature they added in this version of the help section is great!

Thats why they invented computers - to perform easy and boring tasks instead of users.
Imagine yourself I have some idea what actions are done by Save As...and "Rename File. :)

I am not going to create folders for every just 2 or 3 files,
It would lead me to more needed key hits to choice them.
But it is my personal choice and there is obviously no big deal with renaming.
Just easy and boring task.

BTW: Main disadvantages of great Linux systems are probably their users.
Behavior of some of them reminds me behavior of rather Windows than Linux.
E.g.:"You should not turn off you PC by off button"- after crash of W9x systems.

Thank you, Perryg,

I agree keeping shortcut to CHM is convenient way and PDF navigation is harder way.
It is a good choice. Personally I am invoking CHM from VBox console to avoid crowded desktop. :)
Yes, search is good.

I used to just open it in the GUI as well, but I need to open it to refer to sections so often that the shortcut made my life easier.
And after I am all for easier!
