Where are you guys getting you ICH6 Disks from?

Post by ToddAndMargo »

Hi All,

I am trying to get the ICH6 disk controller to work with an install of Windows Server 2003 R2. I downloaded the disk from Intel's web site and it turns out to be an ICH6 RAID Controller. (Needless to say, it did not work.) My other ICH F6 disks start at ICH7. So, I am baffled. Where are you guys getting your ICH6 F6 disks from?

By the way, is it ICH6 or ICH6R?

Many thanks,
-T

What are you babbling about? ICH6? Are you selecting that IDE controller type instead of the default PIIX4 that just works?

"babbling", "babbling" !?!? Why -- Moderators -- These -- Days!!! :-)

In the console, under "hard drives", you have the choice of PIIX3, PIIX4, or ICH6. You also have a check box for SATA (AHCI), which is neither PIIX3 nor PIIX4 (PIIX so does not support ACHI). So, I choose ICH6, since I wanted the extra performance of both SATA and AHCI. Now I need a stinking F6 disk with the ICH6 drivers on it to install WS03.

Ditch that and use SATA. Get Intel Matrix 7.8 or older.

Okay. Now I understand. I am actually installing two disk controller. I am just ignoring the the PIIX controller. I used ICH8M on my XP VM. So I will do the same on WS03.

Thank you,

It's still a good idea to put the IDE controller back to PIIX in case the CD/DVD stops working.
