Virtual Vista access shared disk on Virtual XP

Hi,
I've got a shared folder on my xp computer shared as \\xp-001\S but when I try to access it from the Vista Machine the vista macine gives me an error. I've tried using the internal and NAT networks, with static IPs. They can ping but not access. Is this a prblem with vista/xp or the virtual machines?
Both machines have 512 RAM, Guest Addistions and VB version is 3.0.6.
Thanks.

Are you using the network share or the VBox Shared Folders?
Internal will not work because the Host is excluded and NAT will not work due to you being outside the address scheme of the Host in a network share.
Please read section Chapter 6. Virtual networking in the VBox Users Guide

I'm using the network share. That is, one folder shared over the virtual LAN. I've managed to get it to work so they can ping one another, and a third, XP, VM can access the files but not vista.
On further investigation I believe it may be something to do with vista-xp and not VirtualBox but any suggestions on that would be appricated. If I find out I'll also post here.

As I said if you are using internal you will not be able to do this since the host is left out of the connection equation. Internal is just between guests.
NAT will also stop you from doing this since you are not in the same network scheme.
You will either need to use host-only or bridged to have a network share work between the Host and Guest or just use the shared folders that VBox provides.

I think you misunderstand me, I am only trying to network the guests, not with the host.

Well I was just following your post, and what I saw in your profile.
Anyway no matter.
If you are using Internal and you still can not manage to see the shared folders (guest to guest) then look for firewall issues. Also make sure that the guests are in the same workgroup, and that you have the proper permissions to map/view these shares.

I agree with Perry. If the vms are on the internal network and can ping each other, it is not a VirtualBox problem. It is a straight Windows file sharing problem.
