Hi VirtualBox Experts,

Good day to all of you :) here is my first post.

I am a novice in terms of using VirtualBox and my current VB version is 3.0.8

I wanted to setup a LAN Connection between my Windows XP SP2 (Host OS) and Windows 2003 Server (Guest OS). The said setup will enable my host OS to access the application resides in the guest OS as well as having an FTP (put and pull) for both.

My problem is that i can't configure it correctly. I have also did some reading for any related topic regarding this but unfortunately, i cannot fully understand it so i decided to create a topic for it for me to have a Q&A approach.

I have a laptop and a desktop at home. The desktop has a wireless router connected to it which is then used by my laptop to access the internet. The VBox was installed on the laptop. I have tried using the Bridge and Host Only Adapter and so far my only accomplishment is that the host can ping the guest, but the guest cant ping the host.

Hoping for your good advices to solve my problem. More power to you VirtualBox experts. Thanks in advance.

That doesn't really have a lot to do with VirtulBox. It is a networking problem.

If you have the networking set to bridged mode, the vm will look just like an additional machine on the network. If it is set to get its network config automatically it should look much like the config on the host. Do and ipconfig /all from a command prompt on both host and guest and compare them.

If you can't sort it out, post in a Windows networking forum.
