Problem installing XP SP2 (SATA slipstreamed)

I am having problems installing XP on a Windows 7 Pro 64bit host. I am trying to install Windows XP SP3 with SATA drivers slipstreamed. I have used this disk to install windows XP before (not in VirtualBox).

After the initial loading of drivers, it says "Windows is Starting Setup" and then VirtualBox says an unrecoverable error has occurred.

I have tried various settings like ACPI, IO APCI, and adding a SATA controller

Any suggestions?

Here is the error log pertaining to the error I think.
00:02:42.391 Changing the VM state from 'RUNNING' to 'GURU_MEDITATION'.

Which version are you running? Which version of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager did you slip stream? Version 7.8 and older work with VB, newer don't.

Sorry don't remember. I will try getting/using the original.

Couldn't find the original, but tried installing the new Ubuntu 9.10. It failed as well with the same error message. I don't think it is my XP installation CD.

I've attached a picture of where it is stuck

I figured out my processor doesn't support Intel virtualization (vt-x). Could this be the problem? Is there any way to get around this in Windows? Perhaps this should be moved to the "Windows Hosts" forums.

Wouldn't that cause a problem installing VirtualBox rather than the guest operating system?

Just wondering, I have 2 SATA Hard drives. If I use a partition of one for windoze, will it allow Linux to use the non windoze partition while windoze is running, or does it take full control of the HD. I know when I plug in an external USB drive, it totally takes full control of it, and Linux cannot access it, unless I disconnect it from the USB device on windoze.

I am running into this same problem. I used the CD last week to install a new XP SP2 slipstream and it worked fine.
I am trying to convert a physical drive over and have a xp.vdi. I'm using the Xp install disc to repair the install and it fails
at the same point. I am using version 3.0.10. So I tried to do a fresh install and it failed at the same point.

The install I did using the disc was on VB 3.0.8. Perhaps the new rev. changed the way VB interprets the disc.

Cheers

Thats what it was...went back to 3.0.8 installed that and XP disc works fine!!!
here is the link to the older revs:
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Download_Old_Builds_3_0

For me this is solved but VB should know 3.0.10 has a bug.

I'm new here and do not know how to start a ticket or whatever it's called.

Cheers

If you got 3.0.10 earlier than the official release, then you had a bugged version. Get the new build and try again.

Before the "Official Release"? I went to their site and 3.0.10 was the only thing offered. It did not
say it was a beta. However, I looked for a changelog and there were none to be found. I have since
re-installed 3.0.8 and I am able to move a Physical XP to VB. After I finish my tests I will re-install 3.0.10 and try
again.

Cheers

There was a small time window in which you could download 3.0.10 with a regression and it was fixed before it was announced on the main site and here on the forums. See the announcement in Using VirtualBox.

Saw the announcements. Which one out of the hundreds was I supposed to pay attention to?
None were definitive. Regardless, I took a Dell XPS400 running XP home and converted it to a Mac.
I ran into some of the same problems that these people ran into...I had a way out that worked.
Just giving my info.

My Name is Glynn. Do the Dutch have BIG-FOOTs?

I re-installed 3.0.10-54097 and tried another install....it failed. The disc kills it! So, is it me or is there a problem?
Please let me know what I can send/give you for your work on this. I am NO expert, but I've been around
the block a few times.
