Same exact problem for me. Just updated VBox to Version 3.0.10 Edition using the upgrade manager in Ubutu 8.10.
Using existing Windows XP machine that has worked flawlessly in the past. Machine begins to boot then crashes.

Seems that 3.0.10 does not work at all on any Linux host with any guest OS. Guys, do they have elementary QA here at SUN today?

As a temporary workaround do the proposed solution, downgrade to 3.0.8 for now :?

Devs are aware of it. A new build should be out in a few hours.

A faster way to downgrade for those of you that are using Ubuntu 9.04:

Code: Select all

$ sudo dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/virtualbox-3.0_3.0.8-53138%5fUbuntu%5fjaunty_i386.deb

Only possible if that package is still there. Better to just open your package manager and manually force it. Or remove 3.0.10 and install 3.0 again, that should get 3.0.8 to install. Update repo headers first though, else you're still installing 3.0.10.
