max memory for guest too small

I have installed VirtualBox on an old dell x86 server with 7GB ram running Ubuntu 8.04. Because this isn't an x64 server, I had to use a kernel with PAE to use the RAM above 4GB.

When I try to create a virtualbox guest, the max RAM I can allocate is 2560MB even though the linux host sees 7GB. It seems like virtualbox doesn't recognize the PAE extensions. VMWare Server 2 running on the same host will allow me to allocate 4GB+ to the guest.

Any pointers will be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Chris

32 bit Hosts are limited to 2560 MB of RAM for various reasons and it was chosen for a reason. If you really want to allocate more RAM to one VM, install a 64 bit Host.
