[Solved] Can't Install Windows XP Guest

Host is Mac OSX Leopard. Virtual Machine has 614 MB RAM configured (host has 4GB).

1. I have tried both VirtualBox 2.2.4 and 3.0.8.
2. I've tried both an ISO file (XP SP2) and a completely different hologram real XP CD (XP SP3).
3. I've tried ACPI on/off and IO APIC on/off.
4. Tried SATA and IDE modes for the disk image
5. Even tried a converted IE App Compat VHD Image (a Virtual PC VHD by Microsoft for testing web sites in IE6 and IE8)

In ALL of these scenarios I get the same problem. Setup initializes a bunch of things, and then hangs at this screen:

If I wait long enough (30 minutes or so) setup will unfreeze, allow me to format my hard drive, and it will proceed to reboot to begin installing.

At that point, I get the same exact problem as when I'm using the IE App Compat VHD image . It starts booting up, and hangs after a grey progress bar goes all the way across.

In Normal Mode:

If I try booting in safe mode, I don't get much more information. It freezes after successfully loading mup.sys

Try ram=512, video=32
Check vt-x toggle, if its on but greyed out you need to edit the machine xml.

VT-x is off. My system (host and guest) completely freezes when I try to start a system when it's on.

I've tried changing the memory amount, and no difference at all.

That might indicate a problem with the Host, faulty ram module or something like that.

Forgot about it and left the computer at screenshot #2 of Windows setup overnight. When I got up, it had moved on to the next step and I've installed Windows.

I haven't rebooted yet, but I assume it will take just as long (however long that was). Would still love it if someone could come up with an explanation of what's hanging, so I can find some kind of workaround. If it's a driver that's freezing it, I could bypass loading it.

After reading this, it came to mind that you might get better performance by updating your BIOS.

Running Mac OS X as host, but you're right - it's a Hackintosh. But I'm on the latest revision of my BIOS. Motherboard has a *terrible* ACPI implementation, but most everything works just fine.

But I'm fine with slower performance and VTI-x being off. It's these hard freezes that last for hours that I want to fix.

Sorry, but we don't support hackingtosh releases. Get a real Mac with an official Mac OS X version or just install a PC OS like Windows or Linux. Locked.
