Hi all,
I'm trying to install Virtual Box 3.0.8 on Windows XP SP3 for a bunch of users that do not have administrative rights.
I do have admin rights and I run the install and everything appears to complete successfully.
My users then are able to login with their account and start vbox and configure a machine etc, however whenever they try and access a USB device (such as a memory stick) from within the virtual machine the host OS prompts for admin credentials for the virtual box usb drivers to install.
After some troubleshooting it appears that all the drivers in the virtual box installation package are infact installing except the vboxusb.sys. I have attempted to manually install this driver using both dpinst and drv_ctl, I have even made an MST for the virtual box msi and attempted to insert the difxapp merge module and try the install that way, nothing I do works, the driver does not install unless it is done manually via the windows prompt for the driver at the time the device is trying to be accessed. I also have my system policy to silently succeed for unsigned drivers so I'm not getting any problems there.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there some kind of secret to get this going? Is anyone else having a similar problem? I have installed drivers via custom scripts and from within MSI's many times I'm not really sure what I am doing wrong.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Re: VBOXUSB Driver Installation Issue
I should also add that dpinst actually gives me a successfully completed and that I have tried different versions of Virtual Box, all to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: VBOXUSB Driver Installation Issue
Well for starters, you profile indicates that you are using the OSE version of VirtualBox. If the is correct, the OSE version does not even support USB.

Re: VBOXUSB Driver Installation Issue
Thanks for an answer.
My profile is definitely wrong then. I can get the USB device working fine as an admin.
This is the link I've used to download - http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... 40-Win.exe
I can see there's a new version now, I'll give that a go.
