Win XP SP3 host -network stops responding after a while

Post by henrsve »

Hi,

Host: Win XP sp3 pro
Guest: Win XP sp3 pro
Virtual box ver.: 3.0.8

Hardware: Intel C2D 3,16 GHz, 3,5GB RAM

Running bridged networking with a static IP to the guest. The guest gets 1,5 GB ram (maximum on 32-bit os) and I've set it to use 2 cpu:s (only one core is showing up in the guest, tho).

I've got a strange problem that my guest vm becomes unavailable after a period of time. It can't ping the internal network and it cannot be reached from the host. The only way to "solve" this is to reboot the vm. I discovered this when it said "network unavailable" in utorrent (i'm downloading files through utorrent). The time it takes before it becomes unavailable is hard to tell, but maybe after 1+ hour.

I have double checked and no power saving is currently on, checked both guest and host.

One other thing that's a little strange is that it is always on 90+ % in cpu usage on the guest when using utorrent - that seems a little bit high, or?

UPDATE: When I was sitting here it became unavailable - it can't have anything to do with power saving then. It was after maybe half an hour. I think it has to do with heavy load. It has maybe 7 torrents to download - the cpu is never under 93%.
