How to have sound drivers with Windows 7 64 bits?

Post by piotr58 »

Everything is on the subject !

My Virtulabox run on Mac OS X 10.6 on a 64 bits computer.
So I have install my Windows 7 64b distribution in a new virtual machine.
But I cant find a sound driver. It was the same thing with Windows XP 64b.
A solution?

Set the sound to the ICH AC97 controller in the guest settings, start the guest and tell Windows 7 to check for updates.
If that does not work then install the drivers from realtek.com and then tell Windows 7 to check for updates.

how do you "tell windows 7 to check for updates" in a way that will work? windows keeps telling me no drivers found.

If you can locate the actual driver package on the web download it to your local machine. Expand the drivers and then go into the Device section and bring up the device that it says has no drivers installed. When you tell it to update your driver tell it you are going to manually select it. Select the manufacturer name, and locate the actual device/driver from the list.

One thing I noticed when installing W7 on my laptop is that it may tell you that it failed the installation and then will offer you a chance to try it again (paraphrasing), to which it usually downloads it again and installs it correctly on the second go-round.

Good luck!!

Hi,

I would ti test before writing something. Thank for your advise.
The automatic windows update only work with a 32b version.
I must download the IHE AC97 specific for Vista/Windows 7 (32 and 64b) driver from the Realtek web site and install it.
I have an error after install and a compatibility warning on reboot but this driver works with Windows 7 64b.
