Hi all, I used to have VirtualBox 3.0.4 on my Windows XP host. VirtualBox ran Debian Lenny as a guest OS, and networking was in Bridged Mode.
Lenny and XP would connect to the local network successfully. I set Lenny to 192.168.1.110 and XP to 192.168.1.111.
When I connected host XP to my office VPN, the guest Lenny continued to retain its local IP 192.168.1.111 which is what I wanted. Lenny was also accessible from outside at all times whether XP was on VPN or not (I set my port forwarding on my Linksys router).
Now, after I upgraded to VirtualBox 3.0.8 on XP host, networking got screwed (apart from other things). I reinstalled 3.0.8 and Lenny, but wasn't able to connect to the local network or office network when XP connected to my office VPN. I used Bridged Mode.
So I reverted to VirtualBox 3.0.4 and I'm still not able to get the Bridged networking to how it was earlier (set guest Lenny's networking ALWAYS to the local network whether host is connected to VPN or not). Lenny's networking goes down when I connect XP to VPN, but comes back up when I disconnect from VPN. Setting Lenny's networking to NAT doesn't help - it gives an IP of the type 10.x.x.x which is outside the router range (192.168.x.x) and I can't access it locally.
How do I set my guest OS to be always connected to my local network at all times? Thanks in advance!
