Installing VPN software disables Guest Additions features

So my setup is currently a Windows XP Guest on a Ubuntu 9.04 Host, and I'm noticing that the Guest Additions feature that allows the screen resolution of the Guest to expand with my VirutalBox window on my screen gets disabled when I do 2 things:
- When I install OpenVPN on the Guest
- When I attempt to use a desktop sharing application such as GoToMeeting or DimDim

The desktop sharing issue is somewhat expected I think, as the resolution reverts back to the default of 800x600 with 32-bit color, and this may not be fixable. The more concerning issue is that when I install OpenVPN the resolution changes to 640x480 and the color reduces as well. I've tried re-installing Guest Additions after the OpenVPN installation as well, and this appears to have no affect. In order to restore Guest Additions functionality it became necessary for me to revert to a snapshot taken before the OpenVPN installation.

Also, installing OpenVPN disables my network connection.

Any ideas on a workaround? I'm going to experiment with installing OpenVPN before the initial install of Guest Additions on a fresh virtual machine, but I don't expect this to act any differently.
