Can't update to 3.0.8 from 3.0.6

Attempting to install 3.0.8 over 3.0.6 has failed 3x for me. The install dialog just stops updating itself. Clicking Cancel does nothing. Networking remains 'off'. A host reboot does seem to rollback any changes and afterwards 3.0.6 seems intact. I don't see a lot of messages here re issues with 3.0.8 but anyways for me it's no good. Host is xp pro 32 bit. I think this is the first time a vbox update has failed for me. Should I just wait for the next update and try again? 3.0.6 has been solid.

Two things that you can do to see if you can get this installed:

1. Right click on the install program and then left click on run as admin.
or
2a If that fails you need to reinstall version 3.0.6 and select repair. (DO NOT reboot)
2b Run the version 3.0.6 install again and tell it to uninstall (DO NOT reboot)
2c Run the new Version 3.0.8 install and see if it works (This time reboot)

OK, thanks for the input. Would #2 keep my vms intact, or would I have to re-link them to vbox (not recreate, just re-register with vbox or whatever the correct term is).

The account I'm installing from has admin rights. I don't see that option with the right click (this is winxp pro).

All of your VM's should stay intact and be picked up. But I always tell people that things just happen so it is always a good idea to back up the VDI's at the very least. That way if something does go badly you can create them over again with little effort.
