Can't create a virtual machine...Help!

Post by riddleyw »

I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I successfully installed the 3.0.8.

I launched the virtual box with the "run as Administrator" command.

When I try to create my first virtual machine things go fine until we create the new hard disk. Then I get one of several errors. THe first one is "failed to create the hard disk storage xp3.vdi. Could not save the setting file [..]\VirtualBox.xml (verr_access_denied)." Result code: VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004).

When I hit ok I then get another error: (Verr_Already_Existsts).

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

You should not need to start the program in admin mode.
Now you need to find the xp3.vdi and delete it. (I know there is another way but for simplicity this is what you should do.)
You should be able to do this in the media manager of the main VBox program.
Then start the process over again.

I tried deleting all of the attempted vdi files (xp.vdi, xp2.vdi, etc). Closed the program, restarted. Same problem.

I tried fixed and dynamic. When I do fixed it seems to create the file and then give the access rights error.

Update: For whatever reason...it is now working. I have no idea.
