Hi,

I'm trying to use Virtualbox for Windows SBS 2008. I have set up new Server 2008 machine in Virtual Box and I'm getting following error every time when I try to boot installation disc from iso image or DVD disc. I downloaded ISO image of SBS 2008 from Microsoft website,

Windows Boot Manager
Windows has encountered a problem communication with a device connected to your computer.

This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB dive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.

If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.

Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occured.

My host machine :
DELL Optiplex 745
Intel Core 2 6700
4GB RAM
160GB

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but is not working even on the other machines with XEON processor. I've already downloaded second copy of SBS 2008 from Microsoft website but still no luck.
I would appreciate for any help.

AFAIK SBS 2008 supports only 64 bit. Does your bios support VT-x/AMD-v?
Also is your host XP 32 or 64 bit?

Yes, BIOS supports virtualistation and processor is 64-bit however my host operating system is Windows XP Pro 32bit.
I enabled VT in BIOS and now I'm getting following error:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart you computer.
2. Choose your language setting, and click NEXT
3. Click "Repair your computer"

If you do not have...for assistance.

Info: Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this CPU is not compatible with 64-bit mode.

Does it mean that both host operating system and CPU has to be 64-bit?

Ok, I've done silly mistake. I assigned only 20GB for installation where SBS2008 accordingly to MS website requires min. 60GB. Now I can see progress bar in installation process:)

Did you check the Manual or VirtualBox FAQ for the requirements to get 64 bit Guests?

Finally I've installed SBS2008 in Virtualbox but now I have another issue. SBS 2008 configuration wizard says that my system doesn't meet minimum requirements, RAM memory. I've allocated max. memory RAM 1,5GB in Virtualbox my host system has 4GB. I am not able to check "I acknowledge all warnings", in SBS configuration wizard, check-box is greyed:( It seems that I got stuck for a moment, unless I add more RAM. Am I correct?

You can give the VM 1,5 GB because your Host is 32 bit Windows. Upgrade it to 64 bit and you will be able to allocate more memory to the VM, and physical RAM for the Host.

It explains everything right now now I have to get a new XP Pro 64bit and then I will try again. Your support was very helpful, thank you.
