Hey everyone,
I am new to VirtualBox, but love Sun Microsystems stuff. Anyways I have Windows 7 (from the new MAPS subscription) installed on my laptop and wanted to build a virtual XP machine because some of my software is incompatible with 7 and I don't want to spend money to replace it yet. So I installed VirtualBox with all the default settings, but when I try to start the application nothing ever appears. When I go into my task manager I can see that VirtualBox.exe and VBoxSVC.exe are running in the Processes tab, but I never get any kind of interface. I can click VirtualBox.exe and end the process easily, but VBoxSVC.exe will only end if I click to end the tree item. I have reinstalled probably 5 times and re-downloaded the file as well in case of bad download or install. It seems to be a compatibility issue but I can't find any record of this happening before. PS I am running the latest version of VirtualBox.

SO I figured out that it seems to be that one of the other programs is stopping it. I restarted my laptop and was able to run the program, but when I exited and started up iTunes and Safari then VirtualBox wouldn't start again. It seems to be iTunes because after I restarted again and started building a box, when I started iTunes and began playing music the VM went all haywire for a second. Still does anyone know how to fix this?

I had a similar problem on windows xp and now windows 7.

It was working fine on 7 until a few days ago (incidentally I think that might be around the time I installed itunes)
I haven't found a proper solution so far, the only thing that seems to work is logging off (which forces virtualbox to close, even though it doesn't show up in task manager) and logging back on again.

It seems this isn't limited to just itunes -

I can open / close virtualbox multiple times before spotify. I close vb then open spotify (at this point I can still open / close vb).

As soon as I start playing a song virtualbox just won't open.

To fix I have to close spotify, stop the processes (VBoxSVC.exe complains it wasn't able to create the COM object - CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE (0x80080005)) and start vb before spotify. Interestingly enough while spotify is running and vb isn't, VBoxSVC.exe is using 50% of the cpu.

Maybe this is something to do with audio players in general?

perhaps the connection to the Audio Driver on the computer?

Could be, I've just noticed when I've started a vm up that the guest says it can't connect to the sound device.

Well it seems like the latest update fixed that issue though. I updated a couple days back and I can run iTurnes and VB no problem.

Ive got the same problem, trough i dont use itones or play songs while trying to run Vbox
im using win7 64bit
On my laptop its working great
on my home pc it has loading problems
while trying to load the program using RDP, it works fine untill you close it and try to reopen
i also tried running it after reboot and got nothing

Any idea?

I think my problem was to do with my sound card, any app playing a sound seemed to prevent vbox from opening. I'm afraid I can't really give any more help than that :/

I have installed virtualbox 4.1.12 and create here a virtual machine for windows7 but when i am click on start button for start install the machine, it's going hangup and showing following error. can any one help me here.
