[SOLVED] Compatible Internet Security with VBox 3.0.8?

Post by RudeBoySes »

Hello everyone..
I am a fairly new VBox Enthusiast .. and since the initial installation .. i have fallen head over heels !
I absolutely love VBox !
In my opinion.. this is the greatest thing since slice bread !

I will never go back to Dual-Booting again!

But .. that said..

I have been experiencing tremendous fall-out with my Internet Security (Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 v9.0.0.463)
- During installation.. VBox produces errors for each component that Kaspersky installs ..
- I figured i could just ignore them and continue with installation ..
- Well.. after installation is complete . . and i restart
- VBox will no longer boot up :(

* I now only get Blue Screens of Death (B.S.O.D)
* I am able to boot in Safe Mode but when i try to uninstall Kaspersky .. VBox crashes instantaneously !

So i ended up deleting that Virtual Operating System and resinstalling a new copy ..

I am now up and running with a Clean Install of Windows 7 Ultimate x32Bit on my Guest..
I am on it right now as im writing this post :)
My Host is Windows 7 Ultimate x64Bit ..

Everything is absolutely perfect !

But .. i am afraid of installing Kaspersky again..
I have done extensive research into this matter ..
In change log of VBox.. it does mention fixing Kapsersky known issues..

However.. is there an Internet Security that is known to be 100% Compatible with VBox ?

P.S. I did save snapshots of my Guest .. just incase :)

Thank you in advance

See the VirtualBox FAQ for some incompatible security software. If it's not listed there, it's either not reported, tested or has unknown status. Or it simply works :).
AVG works fine with VB. I have Comodo Internet Security suite installed on my VMs and no problems with that either.

@ Sasquatch
Wow !

Superb customer service !!

Thank you very much for such a prompt and informative response ..

I will def. take your advice on the compatible I.S's ..

P.s.
This is the BEST Virtualization Software i have tested !
- I have tried Microsoft Virtual PC and VMWare ..
- Microsoft Virtual PC only works with CPUs with "virtualization" capabilities
- VMWare is good but it's bloated with a large amount of unnecessary options and components .. atleast not for my use :P

I use Free AVG and have never had a problem in any of my Windows VMs that I use this on.
I did however (since I also use Free AVG on the host) tell the host to not scan the folders were the VDI files are stored.
The reason was it took a long time to scan and since they already are scanned it was pointless.

@ Perryg
Excellent Point !

My Host is running Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 ..
My Guest is running AVG Internet Security

The installation of AVG went smoothly on the Guest :)

But you're absolutely correct ..
That would be pointless to rescan the Virtual Hard Drive since AVG has scanned it already :)

I am still discovering new things about VirtualBox ..
Last night.. i was playing around with Multiple CPU Cores ..

This is my new Girlfriend for a while :)

Thank you to both of you for helping !
