Guest additions stop working after upgrade from 3.02 to 3.08

Post by Nexxion »

I'm running XP with an Ubuntu 9.04 guest.

I was running Virtualbox 3.0.2 and had guest additions installed on the guest OS without a hitch.

I upgraded to Virtualbox 3.0.8 and guest additions stopped working. I tried to reinstall them and get this error now:

-
Please install the build and header files for your current Linux kernel.
The current kernel version is 2.6.28-15-server
Problems were found which would prevent the Guest Additions from installing.
Please correct these problems and try again.

Nothing was changed on the guest OS and I can't figure out what the problem is. Any help greatly appreciated.

Well did you try what it said to do? For what ever reason the VBox GA seems to think that you are out of sync.

Are you sure that nothing changed on the Guest? The only reason the GA won't work anymore is if you had a kernel update, but DKMS didn't install it for the new kernel.

And please check the VirtualBox FAQ too, your profile isn't correct with the information you have there.
