I can't figure out how to network my Windows Guest

I have a guest XP running smoothly on OSX, and the default install network config allows it to see the outside world without any problem. One of my two main uses for XP is to be able to use Outlook with Exchange. (Please, let's not talk about Entourage Web Services Edition. Been there...)
I am not a networking expert, so I'm very reluctant to start messing about and jeopardise my current happy position...
But - here's what I really WANT to achieve: my network here consists of 4 xp machines + 2 macs. All of these machines have been assigned fixed ip addresses, ranging from 192.168.1.2 through to 1.7 DHCP on the router is set to allocate from .100 upwards, to keep occasional visitors 'out of the way'. Default gateway is obviously 192.168.1.1 The Windows machines use a software firewall, with a Rule to allow access to an ip range (currently .1 to .10)
All of these machines can see shared volumes on each other, and we routinely move files around across the network. One of the XP machines is a (kind-of) network storage device, because it acts as a central repository which is then backed up offsite automatically. So, typically this is where any important file attachments I receive in Outlook on the guest might need to be saved to. Presently I have to go through several stages to achieve this, and I'd like ideally to be able to have the guest see the other volumes in the network. I am assuming this means that I want my guest xp to have a fixed ip address of 192.168.1.8, with the default gateway of 1.1, and the specific dns server settings I use everywhere else in the network. I know how to do this in a standard windows install, but I guess I need VB to work some magic.
The guest is already a member of the windows workgroup, and 'sees' it, but cannot browse any of the machines which are part of it.
I've read and re-read the user manual about networking, and see that there is a way to apparently allocate an ip address to the guest, but I really don't know what I'm doing. If you have the patience to steer me through this, I'd be grateful.
Thanks for being here,
Jeff

The easiest way to make this happen is to shutdown the guest, set the Guest network mode to Bridged and then start the guest and go to network settings and enter you static address. Don't forget to add an entry for DNS as well or you will not be able to go anywhere.
Reboot the guest and you should be able to join the network as any other PC would.
