Hi, my first post here, new to VM generally. But I have Win XP working in VB on OSX and its saved my life... so thanks.
I have a couple of questions for the forum, but first I need to be clear about which version I'm running. I downloaded and installed before I knew anything about OSE or PUEL, and now I can't find out which I installed. How do I find out please? 'About VB' reveals only v 3.0.6 r52128.
This is important because I want to upgrade to 3.0.8, and now I understand a little of what I'm doing (!) I need to install PUEL version for USB support... but if I have OSE, I need to uninstall before upgrading, right?
(I use a usb keyboard / mouse which Windows is happy to use... does this point to a PUEL version? Sorry if this is a dumb q!) How do I find out what I installed?!
Thanks for being here. VB helps to make the world a better place.
Jeff

Re: Which version am I using?
Where did you get the VBox program Jeff?
AFAIK If you got it from the virtualbox.org site and did not select the OSE (which would involve you compiling it) then I would think that you have the PUEL version.
As for the keyboard and mouse they are a shared resource and will work in either version.
Is the USB grayed out on your version?

Re: Which version am I using?
No - it isn't! Thanks.
I did download from the vb.org site, and didn't choose to trouble myself with any complications - so I do have the PUEL version.
On the ports tab, I see that 'Enable USB Controller' and 'Enable USB 2.0 (EHCI) Controller' are both ticked, so I'm good to go. This means I can simply run the upgrade over the top of my v3.0.6 I believe. Will everything be 'preserved' - including my installation of Guest Additions? Will there be anything I need to re-do after the upgrade to 3.0.8?
Hey - maybe I should just check - is it always best to upgrade when a new version is available?!
Thanks for your help, I should have been able to work this one out myself. Of course, I now understand that the Settings menu is disabled whilst my guest os is running. doh!
Thanks again.
