Input delays in Ubuntu guest with Compiz switched on

I first noticed this issue when VirtualBox 3 was released and I was hoping it will get fixed soon, but it seems it still isn't.
I have Ubuntu 9.04 guest with guest additions installed on virtualbox 3.0.8 on Windows XP host.
It has 1024MB of RAM and 64MB graphic memory (but changing these values doesn't seem to help).
If I have visual effects (compiz) switched on I get quite long delays from inputs. When I type (into console, editor, etc) keystrokes appear after a noticeable delay.
It also seems that mouse input is delayed. It can be easily noticed when hovering mouse over main menu - it takes a second or so until correct menu element will get highlighted.
Everything works fine when the visual effects are switched off.
It also works fine with VirtualBox 2.2.4.
I really like how visual effects work in virtualbox 2.2.4 so I stick to this version I wait until VB 3 will fit into my needs, but with every new release of VirtualBox I feel that I should upgrade
I guess it's same issue as described here, so it doesn't effect Win7 only:

Have anyone found any workaround to get compiz run smoothly on VirtualBox 3?
