Windows 64bit Ultimate Host cannot run 64bit guest OS...

Hi All,

I am lucky enought to get a Signature edition of Windows 7 Ultimate (retail), I have installed the 64bit version sucessfully as the host OS on my Toshiba latop (T5500, 4GB RAM).

I have created a VM thats to host Windows 2008 64bit server, but every time I try and install the server it comes up with the error;

Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this CPU is not compatible with 64-bit mode

I have ACPI, IO APIC, PAE/NX and VT-x/AMD-V enabled
Nested paging is disabled (and greyed out so i cannot change the setting)

Can anyone shed light on why the guest OS isn't seeing my CPU's 64bit extensions?

Cheers

Carl

See VirualBox FAQ for requirements to run 64 bit Guests.

Hi,

There seem to be at least 4 versions of your CPU T5500, all of them support x64 but only one supports Intel Virtualization Technology, a requirement to run x64 OS's.

You can check with CPUID if your CPU supports Virtualization Technology.

A laptop, well, my money is on the fact that your CPU is not VT-x enabled. And even if it would be, like my T2300, there is quite a big chance that your motherboard/BIOS doesn't support it. If you don't have the feature in the BIOS, then don't bother checking the CPU.
