Paragon Virtualization Manager ?

anyone use VirtualBox with Paragon Virtualization Manager ?

I am stumped

I installed Virtual Box and Paragon Virtualization Manager

ran wizard to copy my system OS (P2V copy)

when finished can see vdi image on C( I think thats Virtual Box )

but I cant connect to virtual disc,as do know where it is ???

You have to register the VDI in the Media Manager. If you know where you saved the VDI, you simply open the MM and click the Add button, then browse to the VDI and add it. Then you can hook it up to a VM.

If you have any problems with Paragon itself, ask them. We have never seen that application before and have no idea how it works and what it exactly does.

Paragon Virtualization Manager is another P2V program. It lets you create a virtual disk from a physical disk or from a Paragon image backup. It claims to be able to fix "hardware" differences as well (like Acronis Universal Restore). I plan to try it own soon.

The tests I did worked well. I converted the image backup of a Windows XP desktop to a vhd file and it booted up fine under VPC 2007 on a Vista desktop. Had the expected activation problem as the desktop was a Dell OEM install. I can read all the files by attaching the vhd to another vm. (This conversion had failed to boot with the MS/Sysinternals Disk2vhd program.)

I then converted the backup of my laptop (Win 7 Pro x64) to a vhd and booted it up under Hyper-V. Again no problems and it activated fine (an MSDN retail version).

The Paragon conversion is not fast but it works for me.

pcmac, did you work out how to create your vm? Did it boot up?

created 2 virtual backups
named:
vdisk.vdi
vdisk

cannot open them in Virtual Box or Vmware,or Paragon VM

That's a question for Paragon, not us.

If you have a .vdi file, Paragon has finished. Follow the directions Sasquatch gave you earlier. Register the vdi in Media Manager in VirtualBox and create a vm using this virtual disk.

Runs slow,on older dell

would like burn it and try on newer laptop with 4 gig ram

how do you do that,or do you just transfer the vdi by flash stick ?

Makes sense, you're moving Windows to a different hardware set, so you're bound to get an activation. What do you think you need to do? I hope you don't get any issues with it. Check the manual first, Advanced Topics - DMI BIOS information.

The reason it's slow is because it's on a different hardware set, it still wants to use the specific drivers, or it falls back to generic drivers and those are very slow. OEM installs usually only have the drivers needed for the system it's going to be installed on. Speed is all about hardware access, RAM, CPU and hard drive speed.

If a DMI string is not set, the default value of VirtualBox is used. To set an empty
string use "<EMPTY>".
Changing this information can be necessary to provide the DMI information of the
host to the guest to prevent Windows from asking for a new product key

It is an advanced thing we're talking about. Usually it's only for people who have more knowledge about these things and know what they are doing. Regular users almost never touch them.
You have to open a command prompt, browse to the VB install folder (C:\Program Files\Sun\VirtualBox IIRC) with the cd command so you can use the VBoxManage program. Then you enter the data as in the example of the Manual. You need to read the information first, but that should also be described.

Surely I'm not only one who has the”register in 7days” problem, the creators of this software should have a simple solution for most of us who are not experts ,if they want a wider user base .
Does VMWare have this problem?

Every virtualizer has this problem, because Windows detects enough hardware changes to make it trigger an activation.
