Failed to attach the USB device

I have Virtual box installed with XP. I can install and use my Canon Pixma MP145 printer with No problems. My computer is a HP dv7-1133d with Vista 64 bit.

I also have a Lexmark X3650 printer. When I try to install this printer I get the following error message when I plug in the USB cable "Failed to attach the USB device. Unknown Device. (Error Verr-file-not-found) Gr 24:2524 to the virtual machine steve11, Failed to create a proxy device for the USB device."

Why can't Virtual Box detect this printer?

Not all USB Devices work properly. If not, there is nothing you can do instead of waiting for the next release.

But there is another approach working ever, if the printer works on the host.: Share the printer over virtual Network.

What is the make and model of the printer?

Are you able to attach any USB devices?

Yes both a mouse and keyboard. Disconnecting the printer and turning the computer off and then on and attaching the printer made UBUNTU recognise it.
