Virtualbox and cpu usage

Hi guys, I have a dual core cpu and I need to run from 1 to 3 virtual machine at time. When I set the machine one core is assigned to the vm. Does that mean only the vm can use that core while running?
How does it compare on cpu usage and performance with vmware player and server?Do you know about recent test?
