Hello!
I don’t know how to set xwindow connection from Unix machine to Linux running in virtual box inside the Windows XP.
What I have done:
xterm –e ssh myname@server.fcf.fi
setenv DISPLAY myx.ipx.xx.xx:0.0
After that xclock does not complain about missing display anymore, however nothing shows up.
then in linux terminal I set:
xhost +
But nothing happens

on
xclock&
So what I’m doing wrong?
Thank you!

You can use X forwarding with ssh -X <machine to connect to>. Then can then start graphical programs from the CLI.

Just default information which can be found if you read the manual (man ssh)

.

Btw, Do you know if there is 'faster' way to connect and use graphical utilities?
I have been using now ssh – x –y – c (even though I'm not too sure what –y does, maybe this man could tell me

)
On 100 meg line it is frustrating and my home 5 meg line leads to suicide thoughts very fast. VNC and FreeNX kind of program would be great, but they are not supported by the server. I have been looking something like that many hours, but without luck.
Slow is somewhat un-understandable because shouldn't it be quite standard to operate server side programs?

You're now asking a question that has little to do with your original subject and is far beyond the scope of this forum. If you want specialized help like that, I suggest you go to a different forum, like LinuxQuestions.

Ok, I will head to linuxquestions.
I just wanted to make sure that it is indeed fundamental problem in unix world and not a virtualbox specific problem.

Well, before pointing the guilty finger to VB, you have to figure out why it's so slow and where it comes from.
