running same VDI from multiple PCs (not simultaneously)

Simple question:

I have a VDI on my linux drive on my desktop. I want to move the VDI over to my network server. Can I then boot that image from virtualbox on windows or on linux (not from multiple locations at the same time, of course) so that I don't have to reboot to access my vbox image? It wouldn't corrupt my image or anything, would it?

Possible yes, but slow over 100mb lan, gb lan would be much better.

Yep, got gigabit, though it's not too fast either (200-250mbps usually). I'll give it a try, and, worst thing that can happen is I'll go back to my local copy on my linux drive 8)
