can't get the floppy to work in windows 98 guest

I have a windows XP host with windows 98SE guest. Even though it shows that the floppy is mounted, when I try to access the drive it says "there is no disk in the drive". Sometimes it will say "no access"
My primary reason for selecting Windows 98 was because I have a program that HAS to be installed with floppies, and it will run ONLY on Windows 98. Without a floppy, the windows guest is completely useless.
Help.

This may or may not work for you.
Make sure that the boot floppy in in the drive before you start the guest.
And that the boot order is set to the floppy first ,then CD, then HDD.
If it is going to work native that is the only way I have gotten to work.
If this fails you will need to burn the OS to image and use the CD.

I already had the operating system installed and working. It was installing the audio program that gave me the trouble.
I got the floppy to accept one disk using your suggestion, but when prompted to install the second disk, it wouldn't work.
After considering all the shortcomings of Windows 98 as a guest, I have decided to use an old computer that I have to install Windows 98.
Now when trying to delete the W98 guest, I get the message that it can't be deleted because it has some snapshots. After deleting the snapshots until all I have is one snapshot left, it says it can't be deleted because the W98 guest has a child hard drive or something to that effect.
Is it Ok to delete the W98 folder located in Documents and Settings>MYNAME>Virtualbox>Machines, and the folder that has the .vdi file, or do you have a better way to delete?
I still want to keep my XP guest.
I guess we can say this issue is resolved.

Open the media manager and look at the left of the window 98 VDI. You should see a small arrow. Click that and you will see all the attached drives.
- Start at the bottom and work your way up and click one and then click release.
If it asks to also delete it then you can delete the file.
After all the child files are gone you then can release the main file and delete it as well.
