Win guest on Jaunty host hangs up dead when checking network

Hello,
I am having this very hard-to-diagnose problem: my Windows XP guest hangs totally numb, apparently when it attempts to do some certain type of network-related activity. It's very hard to diagnose, because sometimes the hangup happens just at random, I just speculate that some windows subsystem or some of open applications attempts to do some generic network-related stuff.
Why do I assume this network relation at all? Because I can force the hangup, if I go and do something banal like Start/Connect to/Show all connections. And this hangup is never released.
A bit about my vbox config: the host is Kubuntu 9.04, vbox version 3.0.6 r52128, guest network is simple NAT. No special config on the router that serves as the gateway to the Internet, no special network config on the host. Funny thing is that the Internet on the guest works pretty well, I can open up webpages in FF with streaming Flash video, update Kaspersky, etc. I have no idea what is that specific thing that makes it go numb.
Perhaps there's some mode how the guest system could be ran with some error console? I'd be thankful for any advice that would help me to move at least one step forward in solving this mistery.
