Disk full error when installing program

Post by k9slaves »

I am trying to install a program in an XP Pro SP2 guest and get a "disk may be full" error. The program I am installing is "The Master Genealogist V7.04" and starts copying files until it gets to the following:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\LTRTN14n.DLL

At which time it hangs for a few minutes and eventually shows the error "Could not write file, your disk might be full". There is plenty of room on the disk, about 8Gb, and I am logged in as admin.

Any ideas would be appreciated

I am using the following:
VirtualBox 3.0.6
Host: openSUSE 11.1 (2.6.27.29-0.1-default x86_64)
Guest: Windows XP Pro SP2 (32bit)

Thanks,
Adam

Did you check the free space _inside_ the Guest? I'm assuming the Guest VDI resides on a Linux file system, so the 4 GB limit of FAT32 won't be the issue.

Yes, the disk has 8Gb free shown in the Windows XP guest.

Did you also monitor the free space during the installation? I know that some installations use a lot of temporary space which will be cleaned after the program installed, but it can get in the way during setup. If you create some additional free space, or use a gig extra so you have less free space, do you get the same error on the same file? If you do, it might be a problem with the installer itself.

Thanks, things are often so simple sometimes, it was the installer which I had successfully used earlier today on another computer. I downloaded a new one and it worked great.

Thanks,
