WinXP Host/WinXP Guest - cannot access network

Post by leigh_wardle »

Hi all,

I am running VirtualBox 3.0.6 on a WinXP Host.

My WinXP Guest cannot access the network (but I have Shared Folder working OK).

The VM settings for the Guest show that Network Adapter 1 is enabled and Attached To: NAT.

On the guest OS I have TCP/IP properties set to use Static IP.

Attempts to ping other PCs on my network fail.
I have also tried disabling my firewall

Any ideas guys?

Thanks in advance :? :)

Regards, Leigh

Why are you using a static IP? And when you say no network access, do you mean no internet access?

Either way, try going back into the guests LAN TCP/IP settings and tick the options to obtain an IP address and DNS server address automatically.

During some earlier experiments I had previously found that automatic IP address and DNS server address did not work and static IP address and DNS server address did work.

Anyway on your advice I went back to automatic IP address and DNS server address - and it's working again.

Thanks for your help.
