Recovering VM after XML files lost, remaining snapshot issue

Post by dmgeurts »

Hi,

Have managed to recover from Lost VM config files to pre-snapshot state. By recreating the VM and mounting the VDI disk images. However the snapshot state of the disks is lost as the .sav file is missing. I do have the vdi files from the snapshot folder. All I really need is the files in the vdi images of the snapshots...

What I can't figure out is how to get the VM to recognise the snapshot state. manually editing the VM's XML file didn't work. Mounting the vdi file doesn't work locally as the media library knows about the snapshot images. About to try mounting the snapshot vdi images on a different system to see if that works.

Any help will be highly appreciated!

OS: Ubuntu 9.04 server, headless
vbox = 3.0.6 PUEL
client/guest: win2k3 with 3 vdi's attached

The only way is to re-create the situation snapshot(s) and all, and after that moving the old uuid data into the newly created files until it works.
