USB HASP SUPPORT

Post by shawnlee43 »

Greetings smart people...I'm looking to set up a program that requires a USB Security HASP to be connected. I installed XP on my Virtual Box on a Vista 64bit system. Upon installing the software that requires the HASP, it never appears to detect it. I think I'm setting up the connection correctly as I can get any regular USB to display on the virtual box and I've installed the drivers on both my machine and the virtual box. Regardless of what I do the program does not "see" the HASP thus it will not open. Any suggestions for an intermediate brain in your technological world? Thanks...

I have made bold what I think you should do.
  • You can either enable the USB in the GUI settings of VBox and leave off the filters (do not define any) then boot into the guest and click on the USB device you want.
Or Use a blank filter (.) and then boot the guest. Unplug the USB device and plug it back in to get focus and it should appear in the guest.

Thanks Perry. I tried what you said and I don't seem to get either way to work. The device appears to be recognized but I get an unknown device error when I look at it. Each time I fire up the program I'm using - no luck.

Any other thoughts? This seems like an easy deal but I just don't understand I guess. I have device drivers installed and it should be reading. It works fine on my XP machine but I need it to run on this VB on my Vista laptop. Thanks for your assistance.

I have no idea that this will work but a few have actually turned off the USB2 support in their bios and allowed them to use the device in the guest. I do not know if that will effect the host or not, none of them said if it created a loss of USB2 in the host.
