Could be that you don't have a proper 3D driver on your Host. Have you checked the Manual for requirements for 3D? Which VB version are you using?

Holaa! to you all forum members, im a proud user of VirtualBox (such, already awesome and promising software), i hope my experiences with it can help someone else; first of all, 3d is not yet supported in 64bit , but you can try this; first: be sure to install VB guest addittions in safe mode, then force 3d support via modify xml machine config file: open it with notepad and look for "3dacceleration" string (cant remember the name exactly) "false" change it to "true", that´s all, this way i was able to run some games  most OpenGL smoothly: Age of mythology (tittans expansion), Age of empires II, Medal of Honor AA, RtCWolfenstein, Serious Sam, Doom 3 (slow), Hitman code 47, and MAME (emulator, crash possible with 2 or more virtual processors), hope this help, anyone tried something like this?, post your results :D .
