Wacom tablet works, but then breaks...

I'm running WinXP 64 on Ubuntu 9.04, using VirtualBox 3.0.6. I've got an Wacom Intuos2 tablet that works with pressure in both Ubuntu and Windows (after adding the usb device to the fstab). but.....
The first time I switch the wacom from Ubuntu to the guest Windows machine ( Device>USB Devices>Table etc....), everything works fine, pressure and all.
If I then disconnect it from the guest machine, and connect it again, it no longer works on the guest (win)....while it still gets disconnected from host (Ubuntu) like it should.
I can disconnect it from the guest, and it's working again on the host.
The funny thing is that when I try to draw, the little green dot on the USB icon shows up, like everything is working fine.
Is there any way to solve this? Logs I can check? Probe the USB ports on the guest to force Windows to pick it up? Or something else that I'm missing?
