[Solved] Upgrade from 2.2.0 to 3.0.6 screws XP

Post by rdonnelly »

Hi All,

I did an upgrade from ver 2.2 to 3.0.6 and my windoze xp would not load the desk top. I need it for business, so I reinstalled 2.2. It seems others have had the same problems with ver 3.0.6, while the earlier versions of 3 did not have this problem. Should I upgrade to ver 3 or just stay at ver 2? My host is Linux Mint 7 Gloria.

BTW, my name is Bob and this is my first post.

If you don't have confident in v3, then stick to the latest 2.2 release (2.2.4). I however, as a lot of other users (you only see a few users here that actually have problems or questions), didn't have any problems after my upgrade. My Xubuntu Jaunty upgraded from 2.2.0 to each new release and all my VMs went with it without issues.
What problem do you exactly get? Not getting to the desktop can be anything.

The Linux Mint I am using is actually Jaunty as well. The only thing that loads is the desktop back ground, no icons, no start menu. So basically a blank windoze desktop.

Weird. And with a downgrade to 2.2 it starts as it should? Changed any setting after the upgrade, like enabling SMP?

My money goes on the virus, not the VB upgrade.

It all worked out fine with an older snapshot and a fresh install of 3.0.6 :D
