CentOS 5.3+Vbox 3.0.6 w/ Windows XP guest =No externa access

Post by duxnekron »

Hello Together
.
I cant understand why my windows xp guest in vbox dont receive any kind of outside access, even PING.
.
.
The host is a CentOS 5.3 2.6.18-164.el5 with a Windows XP SP3 guest.
.
.
I already tested the Windows XP guest VDI in windows 2003 host and the functionality its OK.
.
.
I can send and receive a Remote Desktop requests in guest from windows host but in linux host i just send, not receive any kind of requests, even PINGs.
.
.
The Internet/network use in guest is ok, but i cant access anything from outside, even from linux host.
.
.
Obs* For test, I stopped the iptables and selinux(completely disabled it) services.
.
.
No results until now...

I am not really sure what it is you are trying to do but look at the Firewall on the guest and make sure it is off.
Also if you mean that you can not get to the guest from the outside that is not going to work unless you forward ports on the router because the guest is in a private address scheme.

The guest firewall is off too.
.
.
I am trying to access the guest from my local network, in this case, a RDP connection, but it dont work, the guest can access other local network machine, but nobody can access the guest.
.
.
I tryied to put the guest (192.168.2.102) even in DMZ, but, no success.
.
.
I dont know if exist a special configuration in linux (CentOS) or virtualbox in linux to allow network access to the guests, i ll keep trying, but i know that is nothing to do with the guest configuration, becouse i tested it with a windows 2003 virtualbox host and its OK, i can PING and control the guest by remote desktop, with the same VDI minutes after in linux, i cant do it.
:(

From the host terminal type vboxmanage showvminfo <VM Name> and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM Use "" if the name has a space in it.

I don't see any reason why it should not work. Something must be blocking it. Look for other programs like 3rd party VPN clients or anything that could be stopping this. I would have suggested the Host Firewall but you say it is disabled. But just to be sure you did say that you can actually see/ping the host from the guest but you can not access/ping the guest from the host, right? Also can the guest ping the gateway? can the guest ping yahoo.com?

yes, the guest can ping/access the outside world, but the world cant do anything with the guest.

Also can the guest ping the gateway? can the guest ping yahoo.com?
yes, the guest can ping yahoo.com, gateway, access browser, MSTSC RDP MS Client....

The install of CentOS host is fresh, i installed it just to use virtualbox,i ll try more here, maybe a linux guest or other windows install may resolve, i dont know, thats not so logical for me, i ll not give up so easily, one time this must be ok
