Virtualbox under Linux and Windows 7

Post by mijujoel »

I have a few questions about VirtualBox:

(1) Under MEPIS Linux, I use VirtualBox to run Windows XP Home edition. I have trouble with a few games in which I lose mouse control while the game is running. It is a USB mouse, and when I look at the USB menu at the top of the screen, all of my devices are grayed out. Also, when I try using VPN software in this guest OS, it does not "take" my code. I don't know if the problems are related; the latter may have something to do with XP Professional vs XP Home, but I'm not sure.

(2) I have Windows 7 on the same machine in a different partition. It uses the Windows Virtualization software with XP Professional as the Guest OS. I would like to test this against VirtualBox under Windows 7. Do I need to remove the Microsoft Virtualization Software or can I just not use it while trying out VirtualBox? I'd rather not mess up the XP Guest OS since that does run the aforementioned VPN software. The Microsoft virtualization software seems to be rather slow - the computer stops responding for a long time while using the Guest OS. I'm trying to see if that's a Microsoft problem since I don't get that behavior with VirtualBox.
