LOTRO

I am trying to get LOTRO running under VirtualBox 3.0.6. Direct 3D is present and working. I have given the VM the max video memory (128MB) and have installed the additions in safe mode.

The host system is Ubuntu 9.04 with ATI's restricted drivers (downloaded from their site). The error I get is:

Game Error [129]
Hardware texture compression support was not detected. This video card feature is required to run the game. [129]

~ glxinfo | grep compression # Run on the host, yields:
GL_ARB_texture_compression, GL_ARB_texture_compression_rgtc,
GL_ATI_meminfo, GL_ATI_separate_stencil, GL_ATI_texture_compression_3dc,
GL_EXT_texture_buffer_object, GL_EXT_texture_compression_latc,
GL_EXT_texture_compression_rgtc, GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc,

Any ideas?

The game needs DirectX, and that is currently supported through the Wine libraries. Now, the game does run on Wine itself, but not all features are available in the DX > OGL translation on Windows. That is your current problem. Sorry, but the game won't run on VB.
