Backup and restore

Hi all,

I have googled this following and could not really find a lot of info (I even went through the VBox Manual!), and I really need a happy/warm feeling before I do this.

In the time honored tradition of Windows, it is looking like I need to rebuild and re-image (back to default) my c: drive.

My VBox images are stored on the D: (another partition) and I also have the \virtualdiscs folder backed up on a external disc (It took a long time to get these sessions working the way I liked). Obviously the VBox xml file is located in c:\users\<my username>\.vbox....

So, do I simply
(1)
Rebuild Vista
Install VBox 3.06
Copy back the .xml file to c:\users = job done
or
(2)
should I use the export/import under the file menu?
(3)
Or is there another (safer) way of doing this?

Also, one of the Images is a default work lab setup, I'd like to be able to run this on other machines if I can so would (1), (2) or (3) be of use for this purpose?

Actually nothing is perfect, but if you have everything backed up and (hopefully do not have any snapshots) you can do get it to work with the first step. Just remember to have patience and keep the backups handy.

Cool, i think I will have a 'dry run' on another machine - the lab image took weeks to build!

Don't forget the VDI(s) they are much more important then the xml's.

He should be OK he said that the VDIs are on a separate partition and a separate drive.
