Hello,
Yesterday I installed virtualbox 3.0.6, and since the install I cannot connect to my computer via RDP. This isn't the VRDP I'm talking about - I'm not trying to connect to the guest operating system at all at this point. Just standard remote desktop from an XP SP3 machine into a Vista SP1 machine.
It's possible that it is unrelated to virtualbox, but the problem did not appear until after the install, and I didn't install anything else on the host.
It isn't a network problem because I can RDP to other machines on the network. Also, I can RDP out of the problem machine, just not into it.
Does anyone have a clue what is going on? I would greatly appreciate the help!
Thanks.
After install RDP won't work

Re: After install RDP won't work
Hard to say without more information but here are a few things that you can do to test:
(1) Power cycle the host.
(2) Try RDP before you start the VBox program.
(3) See if changing the vRDP port to a higher number to see if it is conflicting with the Windows RDP port.
(4) Final test involves un-instaling VBox and trying to RDP in. This will not loose your guests and when you re-install they will be picked up again.
Let us know if this does not work.

Re: After install RDP won't work
I've done 1 through 3 already.
I'll uninstall and see if that works, and post back. Thanks for the reply!

Re: After install RDP won't work
OK, I was able to RDP in after uninstalling VirtualBox, so that's almost certainly the problem.
Are there any suggestions on how to fix this issue? From what I've seen I like VB better than vmware, but RDP is necessary for me.

Re: After install RDP won't work
It may be that you need to install VBox by right clicking the install and then left clicking run as Admin.
Also it can be possible that since you mentioned VMware that there is a conflict with the two of them being installed together. Both want to control the network adapter and I assume that could be an issue.

Re: After install RDP won't work
OK, got it fixed.
Immediately after finishing reinstalling Vbox, I tried to RDP in and couldn't - even before actually turning on virtualbox for the first time. I checked my firewall settings - pretty much as a last resort - and remote desktop wasn't set as an exception! So either the virtualbox install turned it off or somehow made windows start following the settings that it should have been following but wasn't.
Either way, adding the exception made everything work as it should.
Again, thanks for your help.
